Acer palmatum is the classic Japanese maple for bonsai cultivation. Completely frost hardy, vigorous and very tough. The delightful and delicate leaves can create the most breathtaking display of colour in autumn. Keep the tree well watered in summer and fertilize regularly throughout the growing season. Protect from strong winds when in leaf. Best autumn colour is achieved if the tree is kept in full sun. Repot every 2-3 years using Kaizen Bonsai No2 Bonsai Soil Mix.
Graham has grown this little maple from seed over 10 years, five of which were in the ground. It's now time for someone else to take over the project. This is a plain green leaved acer palmatum which has significant vigour. It will benefit from a full repot in spring 2027.
