Zelkova serrata

A very popular tree for (normally) small bonsai. Their value stems from their very fine quality of detail. Beautiful small serrated leaves on red petioles - Ultra fine twigging and gorgeous bark all conspire to make a species supremely suited to Bonsai Cultivation. Zelkova serrata is probably the finest elm species for bonsai. The species is fully hardy in the U.K. Water well and feed often. To help build good ramification pinch new shoots as the fourth new leaf forms. Delightful lemon yellow / red autumn colour.

Now here's a first. Recently we stumbled across a small number of these massive zelkova stumps. The species is known in bonsai for it's use in creating delicate broom style bonsai and that's pretty much all we ever see, until now. Massive part worked zelkova that has had a rudimentary branch selection/wire done and some basic carving. Well established and growing like crazy. A huge amount of carving to do! A great opportunity to make something unique and at a bargain price too!

28" tall above it's pot. 25" wide overall. 12" diameter nebari

Planted in a plastic nursery pot.
