Yamadori English Oak Bonsai Material
Everyone seems to want one of these in their collection. There is a certain romantic image attached to English Oak. It is a fine tree to cultivate as bonsai. It is tolerant of most conditions but does like full sun when in leaf. Don't re-pot too often and once the tree develops some ramification the leaves will reduce very well. Winter wash in February with a tar wash or dilute lime sulphur to avoid pest problems in summer.
A yamadori oak collected in Italy. We took this tree in PX some time ago and it was not growing very well. Graham re-potted it last year and it enjoyed TLC all last summer. The result is a tree that's now fighting fit and facing a bright future. This year leaves are twice the size they were last year, a great sign at this stage. Once the ramification is increased leaf size on these Italian origin oaks reduces dramatically.
Planted in a plastic bonsai pot.
