Yamadori Cherry Plum Bonsai Material - Prunus Cerasifera
Cherry plum is a broadleaf deciduous tree native to south-east Europe and western Asia, but has naturalised in the UK. To the untrained eye this prunus could easily be mistaken for Blackthorn, prunus spinosa. The most obvious difference being cerasiferas 's new growth shows red stems whereas spinosa is green.
Perfectly at home in the UK climate treat this prunus exactly as you would blackthorn.
Collected in Spain. Well established, this big tree was shaped with a little wire over last winter. Some carving was also started and this can be progressed over winter. There is obviously some way to go but at the speed these trees grow it won't take long to turn out a very presentable bonsai tree.
