Scot's pine (Pinus sylvestris) is a remarkable tree, naturally it occurs from Spain in the south to Lapland in the north and east across Siberia. Obviously it is tolerant of a vast range of conditions from almost cooking in the dry hot Spanish summer to deep freezing in the horrific Siberian winters. Many authorities consider Scot's pine to be the worlds finest species for Bonsai Cultivation. It is very tough and can withstand the rigours of bonsai training easily.

It is vigorous in growth habit and back buds easily, within a very short period it will produce a tight compact crown and once twig density has been established the needle length very quickly reduces. Scot's pine also develops wonderful craggy bark texture, a highly valued feature in bonsai material. As with all pines re-potting is rarely necessary, several years can pass before work will be required.

Scot's pine appreciates regular feeding but only very lightly. Also it is important to provide a little feed about once a month throughout the winter during warmer spells of weather. The tree will appreciate being allowed to dry out just a little between watering or the foliage colour will begin to fade to a sickly yellow/green.

A superb yamadori scots with a craggy twisted trunk. Very well established in this pot for several years. A long term project priced appropriately.

Planted in a plastic nursery pot.
