St Lucie - Mahaleb Cherry Bonsai Tree

Latin name: Prunus mahaleb
Just perfect for cultivation as bonsai. Small bright green leaves, dense twigging, small white scented flowers and delicate fruit. The plant quickly develops a fine root system. New shoots break from anywhere on the trunk giving the chance to select branches for the future of the tree. Fully frost hardy in the U.K, treat just as you would a blackthorn or hawthorn. A superb subject for bonsai and simplicity itself to cultivate and develop as bonsai. Nice yellow autumn colour.

Collected in Spain several years ago, all the branch structure has grown since collecting. Graham styled this for the first time over winter and the wire is now removed. This variety normally only needs one structural wiring. Subsequently it's just a case of developing upward facing shoots and selective pruning. A lovely craggy littel tree with a great future.

16" tall above it's bonsai pot. 19" wide overall. 4" diameter root flare.

Planted in a plastic nursery pot.
