From a private collection, we obtained this tree a few years ago in a relitively poor state. Since then Graham has been working hard on restoring the trees vigour. This included a re-pot 2/3 years ago. The tree is now growing very well and has great colour. Most of the Japanese white pines we see are grafted yatsabusa varieties. This is, as best we can tell, a plain old pinus parviflora and as such has a slightly longer needle and more open structure than it's dwarf foliage cousins. Our garden is very exposed to both sun and cold winds neither of which this pine likes, we have found it does better in a sheltered position in light dappled shade. To be clear this is NOT pinus pentaphylla, commonly called seedling pine or Japanese five needle pine.
