English Hornbeam Bonsai Material
Carpinus betulus
Native to the U.K, carpinus is a principle woodland species that can make a very big and majestic tree. In bonsai cultivation the tree prefers a little protection from the sun in summer and will thrive in very light shade. Completely hardy in the U.K Hornbeam is a very simple and robust tree that is rewarding to care for and train as bonsai. Hornbeam does not need to be re-potted quite as often as other deciduous varieties. Throughout summer regularly remove large leaves and those that either hand down or grow inwards.

A massive gnarly hornbeam with an incredible trunk. TOP quality bonsai material. Lots of natural hollows and great bark. Recently carved and styled for the first time. Recently preserved deadwood, hence odd colour, this will fade to something more natural very quickly.  Trunk is pretty much hollow along most of it's length. A fantastic project already in a small pot with a compact root system. A stunning tree for the price of a crap one!

Planted in a mica bonsai pot.
