Cork Bark Oak Bonsai
Quercus suber is a variety of Mediterranean oak well suited to bonsai cultivation. We have been cultivating this variety in the U.K for many years now.  Small evergreen crinkly leaves and stunning bark (cork) adorn the tree as it ages. Suber responds well to wiring in summer. The tree is sensitive to re-potting but this will not cause a problem as long as the tree is in active growth when the work is done, early to mid summer being the ideal time. However suber can be left in a pot undisturbed for much longer than other species, so re-potting is not necessary very often. Keep in full sun at all times and only water when the soil is dry. In winter protect from freezing in a conservatory or cold greenhouse. Suber will stand very light frost so long as the soil is fairly dry but keeping it under cover and dry over the winter will keep the bark pristine as well as protecting the delicate roots.

A massive craggy cork bark oak that's well established for 5 years now and growing fast. Lots of branches to use in initial styling. Superb craggy bark and beautiful trunk. Plenty of scope to improve the basic carving previously completed. It's now illegal to import large trunk oaks into the UK so don't expect to fine another one of these any time soon......or ever.

31" tall from the top of it's bonsai pot. 24" wide overall. Approximately 11" diameter nebari.

Planted in a plastic nursery pot.
