Buxus Harlandii Bonsai Tree
Buxus harlandii or Harland's Box, is a native of southern China. This type is quite different from the more familiar box species found in gardens and parks. Harlandii has a minute leaf form and these are densely packed on the very fine twigging. However the best feature of this type is it's amazing quality craggy bark. Perfectly suited to Bonsai cultivation box are slow growing compact dense trees that require a minimum of attention in order to look good all year round. Fully hardy in the U.K. This variety of box will suffer badly if the soil is waterlogged for any period of time. We recommend giving this box some winter protection in a cold greenhouse in order to protect the roots and also to preserve the bark and prevent it from going green with algae. We know many of our customers grow this variety indoors year round in conservatories. Always allow to dry out a little between watering. When re-potting (summer) do not over prune the roots. Only re-pot after spring growth has hardened.
A superb quality elegant buxus with a beautiful trunk, good nebari and craggy bark throughout. Some time and effort to improve the branch structure over the next couple of growing seasons will be well rewarded. The lowest price we have ever seen for a good trunk sized Harlandii.
