Collected from Essex woodland this old hornbeam has had two seasons in a growing box. Pictured here at re-potting time showing superb new root development.
Wedged into it’s first pot. Wire used for initial branch placement.
April 2003, wire removed and showing good strong growth.
Close up of the big trunk following cleaning of the
deadwood.
Summer 2008, coming along nicely, English hornbeam make
excellent bonsai trees in double quick time.
Ramification is beginning to improve
Gordon Duffet pot.
Autumn 2010
Not there yet but good progress for less than
10 years
Thank you very much, this piece makes it easier to apiepcrate the time and work that goes in creating a bonsai. Truly a labour of love and dedication. Carry on the good work

You are getting very pretty ramification that does not too much compromise the stark impression of the base.
I hope you can find the right balance for the head, and that that forest of new growth is manageable.
Carpinus betulus (?) is a favourite tree of mine. This one is beautiful!
