Japanese Holly Flowering Bonsai Tree
Ilex crenata, also known as Japanese holly and box leaved holly is a native of China and Japan.
The tiny toothed shiny leaves are perfect for cultivation as bonsai. In summer the tree bears a multitude of tiny white flowers. Evergreen, easy to cultivate and train ilex make excellent bonsai. Ilex appreciates a little protection from the worst of the winter weather, particularly wet. A little overhead shelter will bring the tree through even the coldest winter. A great species to own, particularly if you are new to bonsai. Ilex appreciate full sun and good ventilation. Only water with rain water, Ilex need an acidic situation in order to thrive.
A superb quality ilex. Over the years we have seen a great many ilex imported from China but trees of this quality are almost impossible to find any more. The tree has dense ramification and a very good nebari.
23" tall above it's pot. 22" wide overall. 4" diameter nebari.
